Well hello there! I’m Sofia.

Welcome, friends! I am a Boston, MA based watercolor artist, small business owner, and gelato lover. Singing along to musicals (very off key) is my favorite. I quote movies on a far too frequent basis, and I may name all the plants I own and try to keep alive. My ferns, Giancarlo and Billy Dee Williams, are thankfully flourishing. When I’m not painting in my studio, you can find me having in depth discussions about cargo helicopters with my aviation obsessed toddler, baking scones, watching baseball, and exploring New England with my family. Speaking of family, I am so honored and blessed to now hold the title of Mom to our darling Leo and very very soon-to-be second little boy. While this has meant taking a step back from full time work, I am excited to continue learning how to balance painting and all the immense joys of parenthood.

have you always been an artist?
Creating has always been part of who I am. Art classes and filling sketchbooks led to my first foray into business with a greeting card company when I was in middle school. I studied art and art history throughout high school and college and all of my notebooks (and text books) were covered in doodles. That said, after college graduation (and a brief foray in publishing in NYC), I stayed in higher education working for the admission office at my Alma Mater (go Tribe!). After a move to be closer to my husband, I additionally worked in admissions in Charlotte, NC. Over those five years, watercolors filled my evenings and weekends with so much joy and color. But, it was never enough. In May 2019, I took the leap to full time with my creative business. It has brought me so much joy sharing my art with others - from painting venue illustrations to nursery animals. I hope a little something from Sofia Lenore Watercolors can fill your home with color!

what inspires you?
Travel. Really good food. People who are passionate about what they do. And my incredible artist and illustrator role models who are werkin’ the freelance game.

what’s your favorite piece of art?
The intricacy of the Chi Rho Iota page of the Book of Kells illuminated manuscript will forever blow my mind. At Thanksgiving dinner with family, I found out my parents were going to see it in Dublin. I just sobbed. Right there. I was so excited for them (and also a little green with envy). I can only imagine what would happen if I saw it in person. Art has a way of truly moving you.
As a side note, I’m very much a happy crier. I’ve cried two separate times over well cooked potatoes… so maybe this was not all that surprising.
