Snail Mail is no doubt one of my favorite things. I love the process of writing a note and filling it with gratitude or best wishes or words of celebration. I love the flourish of calligraphy on an envelope. And most of all, I love the moment of opening up my mailbox to see something personal waiting there.
So many people these days tell me hand written letters are going out of style. I’d heard friends say a phone call, email, or text after a birthday is enough to say thank you. And ok, ok - my fiancé and I did agree that, when married, he never has to write a thank you note again (don’t worry, I’ll write them) because he abhors writing return addresses.
But friends, I feel the care that goes into writing a note or finding the perfect card to mail is timeless.
Whenever I receive a note in my mailbox, there is this immediate urge to rip it open and see what is inside. Over the last few years though (with very conscious effort) I have remembered to wait. I now only open a card when I’m back inside with totally undivided attention. And ideally this is when sitting on the couch with a cup of tea in hand. If a friend has taken the time out of their day to write to me, I want to make sure I give the opening and reading of that same card the care and time to enjoy it in return.
As an example, one of my favorite cards to open was from my sister. She sent it during a rough semester in college where I signed up for too many credit hours + volunteer jobs and my sanity was getting lost in the shuffle. Her simple “keep it up” surrounded by some precious bobby pins will always make me smile. This simple gesture meant the world to me, and it was the motivation I needed to work on through the craziness.
It is with this wholehearted love of snail mail that I have started to creating greeting cards for Sofia Lenore Watercolors. I spent my 27th birthday sketching and painting a series of my favorite things ranging from waffles to unicorns to tacos, and these simple pleasures have become the basis for my cards.
Luxe notecards which come in packs of 5 also provide the opportunity for a little “thinking of you” magic.
Each design is bright and colorful, and they are meant to spark joy in the giver and recipient alike. I hope that upon receiving one of these bad boys, the reader will find the same motivation, support, and thanks that I felt when reading my sister’s “keep it up“ card.
I hope that you enjoy these designs as much as I do. Share them with friends and family to spark a little joy in their day. Take time and care in sending something personal that can then be saved and cherished.
They are all created with love to then be sent with love.
xoxo
